In 1960, Lancôme introduced the Stylarome, a refined gold-toned purse flacon designed as a portable and elegant way for women to carry their favorite fragrance. The flacon was crafted from metal with a luxurious gilt finish, making it resemble a stylish accessory rather than a traditional perfume bottle. It was accompanied by a small gilt metal funnel, allowing it to be easily refilled—an important feature at a time when reusable containers were a mark of sophistication and practicality.
The Stylarome could be purchased pre-filled with one of four popular Lancôme fragrances: Magie, Trésor, Envol, or Flèches d'Or. Its compact form was meant to slip effortlessly into a handbag or evening clutch, making it a perfect companion for quick touch-ups throughout the day or evening.
Lancôme’s French advertising of the time promoted it with the phrase: "Effleurez votre peau avec Stylarome, vous êtes instantanément parfumée. Stylarome, le nouveau parfum de sac de la Parisienne! Compagne d’élégance de l’étui de rouge à lèvres." In English, this translates to: "Brush your skin lightly with Stylarome, and you are instantly perfumed. Stylarome, the new purse fragrance of the Parisienne! The elegant companion to your lipstick case." This marketing positioned Stylarome not just as a fragrance container, but as an essential fashion accessory for the chic, modern woman—on par with a fine lipstick or compact mirror.
